Overview

IAESTE (pronounced “eye-ess-tay”), or the International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experiences, is a global organization promoting intercultural exchange between students in STEM fields. Established in 1948, IAESTE now includes over 80 official member countries that collaborate to provide students in the STEM fields with paid, international internship opportunities. The program was established in the United States in 1950 and is administered by Cultural Vistas, a nonprofit exchange organization promoting global understanding and collaboration among individuals and institutions. Cultural Vistas develops international professional experiences that create more informed, skilled, and engaged citizens.

How Does It Work?

Students and young professionals looking to participate as an intern on the J-1 exchange visitor program are required to work with a sponsoring organization in the United States. Cultural Vistas, the non-profit organization that administers the IAESTE U.S. program, is a U.S. Department of State designated J-1 visa sponsoring organization for the intern and trainee categories. The J-1 Visa Exchange Visitor Program allows students and recent graduates to complete internships and traineeships in the United States with the goal of promoting cultural exchange and mutual understanding between the United States and other countries. For more information about the program, please visit the State Department website at j1visa.state.gov
